In my line of work, I spend a lot of time testing new web sites, implementation or online product… and one of the most annoying things is having to test across different browsers.
There’s often a gap between designers and developers and users or consumers. The former prefer to use Firefox with it’s endless array of add-ons to help facilitate daily tasks (not to mention the fact that it’s cooler and not owned by Microsoft) while consumers are more accustomed to using IE6 and 7. I didn’t want to use the word ‘favor’ as I don’t think most consumers are even aware which browser type they’re using or the fact that other one’s exist.
Either way, you’ll understand why I’m quite enthusiastic about this. The Lunascape browser, is effectively a 3-in-1 browser that allows you to render sites in Trident, Gecko, and Webkit.. which are the rendering platforms behind IE, Firefox and Chrome. You can read more about switching engines here. It also claims to be the fastest browser in the world at the moment, based on the Sunspider Javascript Benchmark. The speed aspect is not of much interest for me, the ability to test from one browser by changing setting every so often is what I’m looking forward to…
Unfortunately, the Alpha version is only available for Windows OS (Vista and XP)… nothing for the Mac yet. More about it on TechCrunch…
