Apparently, research undertaken by the University of Californa (UC), goes to prove that spammers do make money. The research group set out to investigate the economics of spamming… by infiltrating the Storm network and using a part of the network to unleash a barrage of spam emails (469 million to be precise) encouraging users to go to a well-designed-to-look-real pharmacy site.
Have a read through this article… but ultimately if the exercise were scaled up to include the whole Storm network of computers it may have resulted in about 7000 US$ worth of sales every day. That’s about US$ 2 million a year people!
