Facebook launches engagement ads…

MarketingVox is reporting that FaceBook has launched ‘engagement ads’ as a way to leverage the power and trust within networks to drive more relevant traffic.

FaceBook users will be encouraged to write a short review, RSVP or become a fan of a product or service being advertised. In turn the ad, and the response will both be presented to all members of the user’s network.

Personally, I think this is quite a good way of tapping into the power of Facebook’s networks to increase engagement and traffic to ads. But only time will tell if users will actually engage with the ads… and whether it will be the saving grace for FaceBook’s monetization plans.

For more detail on how it works, FaceBook’s expectations from this, and some comparison’s to MySpace… have a read here.
