Is AOL about to get collapsed into Yahoo’s business?
Since Yahoo’s share collapse over the last few months they have rejected several Microsoft offers, accepted integrating Google ads (but having problems getting it approved by anti-monopoly rulings) and are now entertaining the notion of merging and absorbing the AOL business into it’s own. Ironic how this comes out on the day they launch their new ‘open’ homepage… allowing users to plug in and embed feeds, content and email from Google, Yahoo and others. Which for the record is very unlike AOL…
This is the free hand of the economy at work… but will a merger such as this help Yahoo get out of it’s quagmire? or will it just help Google since effectively they’ll have lost another competitor?
Furthermore, and more importantly… what name are bloggers going to use for this merger? YAOL? AOHoo?
