On Wednesday (22/10) Google Analytics beefed up the features available on this wonderfully free web analytics service…
As per the Google Analytics blog the changes include:
Advanced Segmentation, Custom Reports, a data export API (private beta), integrated reporting for AdSense publishers (private beta), multi-dimensional data visualizations called “Motion Charts,” and an updated user and administrative interface.
I’ve had a quick look and it’s great work by Google… these advanced features will almost certainly impact the subscriber base of WebTrends, Omniture and other paid analytics tools, especially as companies focus on cost-cutting during these dire economic times…
Below are YouTube clips of some of these features…
>> Advanced Segmentation:
Google provides a set of default segments but you can easily create your own. This is ideal for segmenting and categorising your user base, and I’m sure a few Marketing Managers will be excited about this one. Particularly the guy who put together this very good post on how to make the most of Advanced Segmentation…
>> Custom Reports:
The name speaks for itself, but here’s a quick clip… the usability and intuitiveness of this tool are better than anything else I’ve seen. Heavy but appropriate use of AJAX.
>> Motion Charts:
This is a pretty cool feature that allows you to add a multi-dimensional perspective to your data. This is only really useful when analysed over time and compared against other multi-dimensional data models… either way it helps visualise the data better. The tutorial below is based on analyzing keyword data through motion charts…
The API and Adsense integration features are currently in Private Beta so I haven’t been able to access or see much about how they work.
